Seldom have our own four walls been so charged with meaning as they have been in the past few months. The pandemic has created social and artistic barriers and raised what felt like meter high masonry around us. Walls define boundaries, create distance, separate and alienate. At the same time however, they create a new potential space, which was also used as a source of creativity and highly concentrated artistic work during this difficult time. A playing field for the arts, foundation, canvas and projection surface. With the series FOUR WALLS, PHACE is devoting itself to the walls, the spaces in between, what lies outside or could arise and takes a look at the diverse artistic handling of loneliness, isolation, deceleration and their effects. FLASHFORWARD observes the contrasts between surging flow and solid form, between artificial landscape and natural environment. In SPARKS & FLARE, sounds break on the walls, shimmer back and fill the room like a kaleidoscope with microscopic sculptures and moments. HAPPINESS is in search of reality in standstill and progress and looks at what is own and what is alien in the mirror of encounters through media. Christoph Herndler’s BUCHE UND BLATT finally draws windows into the walls with geometric precision and opens the field of vision to the free sound space that lies behind.
Prior to each concert, Juri Giannini will discuss the music with the composers within the setting of “Salon PHACE”.
