Capriccio: That means joyful violation of rules, imaginative transgression of the norm, playful fearlessness; but it also means the artistic and technical discipline necessary to achieve the demonstrative ease of this “freaking out.” Accordingly, all the works in the Capriccio series are about making the threshold from purely technical mastery of the means to their transgression tangible in each individual form: In Capriccio per Goldner a falling line is transformed into a surface of friction for the emergence of differentiated musical expressive qualities; in Capriccio per Manganelli a barely audible instrumental whisper becomes a speaking sound; and in Capriccio per Gerhard Richter the relationship between the triggering sound and its resonance is reversed.
